One of the questions we must ask is WHY? The mother of Jesus and the apostles all reappear in Acts\u00e2\u20ac\u201dbut Mary Magdalene, Joseph of Arimathea, not to mention Lazarus and Martha, all disappear abruptly and are noticeably absent in the Book of the Acts of the Apostles. \u00c2\u00a0St. Paul never mentions any of them in his epistles either.<\/p>\n<div>In 1988 I wrote the short fictional \u00e2\u20ac\u0153novella\u00e2\u20ac\u009d that was later published as the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Prologue\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Woman with the Alabaster Jar\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (1993). The story show how we might have lost all information about Mary Magdalene following the proclamation of the Resurrection. If Mary Magdalene was the wife of Jesus and pregnant with his child (or even possibly pregnant\u00e2\u20ac\u201dor already a mother), protecting her from the Roman and\/or Jewish authorities would have been a top priority of the friends and followers of Jesus. Legend insists that Joseph of Arimathea was the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153custodian of the Grail\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00e2\u20ac\u201dthe vessel that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153once contained the blood of Christ.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00e2\u20ac\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In 1995 Susan Methvin, Ph.D. a college English professor in Alabama, sent me a poem she had written in response to reading my book:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Imagine the Grail if you can, not as a gold cup<br \/>\nnor as one silver, embossed with grapes and vines,<br \/>\nbut imagine the grail as the cup of her body,<br \/>\nthat rocking place beneath her breast, the deep pear-shaped sac.<br \/>\nHer stomach rounded skin stretched into spun silk,<br \/>\nfills with the fruited seed of their making love.<br \/>\nThe unborn child sways in this dark grail as her mother rides<br \/>\nacross the searing desert. \u00c2\u00a0Magdalen&#8217;s only songs . .<br \/>\nsteady breath, heart&#8217;s beat, dry sob.<br \/>\nIn the heat, sometimes Magdalen<br \/>\nmouths His name, and the child takes form<br \/>\nblessed beneath the name of Jesus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A few years later Susan died, a victim of breast cancer. \u00c2\u00a0You can visit a blog commemorating her here: \u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.susanmethvin.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.susanmethvin.blogspot.com\/<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>These days following Easter are an anniversary of the trek of Mary Magdalene across the Sinai to Alexandria\u00e2\u20ac\u201dinto nearly 2000 years of exile&#8230;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In memory of her\u00e2\u20ac\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Margaret<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.margaretstarbird.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.margaretstarbird.net<\/a><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Margaret Starbird wrote today April 10, 2015 the week after Easter: Legend places Mary Magdalene in France after AD 42, but she disappears from the Christian narrative sometime between Easter morning and the beginning of the Book of Acts.
